KITTEN LIST
Updated: 11th September 2011

Choosing an Oriental or Siamese kitten is exciting and can be fun but there is a serious side too.

Is the kitten purely as a pet or do you think you might wish to show or breed? Either way the breeder should supply you with a copy of the kitten’s pedigree, a transfer document, a Certificate of vaccinations, and worming details. A diet sheet and hints and tips to settle your new kitten are also provided. You may receive temporary insurance cover also provided by the breeder at no extra cost to you.

If you are buying the kitten with the intention of breeding it is essential to check that it has been registered on the Active Register or you will find that you will not be able to register your kittens later. Kittens sold as pets are normally placed on the Non-Active register so be sure to tell the breeder exactly what you are after! All kittens registered on the Non-Active register should be neutered at around 5 to 6 months old.

Only kittens that are registered on the Full Register ( the number will start with CS), the Supplementary Register (CSSR) or the Experimental Register (CSEXP) may be shown. The fact that a kitten is on the Non-Active Register does not mean that it cannot be shown but the breeder will advise you of the kitten’s potential on the show bench.

The price of your kitten will depend on all of the above but also on what vaccinations have been given. Oriental and Siamese kittens should not go to their new homes until at least 13 weeks old and have been fully vaccinated against feline infectious enteritis and cat flu by a qualified veterinary surgeon. Some breeders also have their kittens vaccinated against other diseases such as feline leukaemia, chlyamydia, etc. Therefore the cost of your kitten will reflect the protection provided by the breeder.

Do not be tempted to buy the cheapest kitten advertised because an underage, unvaccinated, unregistered kitten may well prove much more expensive in the long run. Never buy a kitten because you feel sorry for it, either. If you are unhappy with the conditions you see do something positive to prevent further misery to those and future kittens that person may breed. All genuine breeders comply with the GCCF Code of Ethics .

And now to get more personal ! If you have children or a dog it is a good idea to find a breeder whose kittens have already been familiarised to children and/or dogs. Of course this is not always possible but you should, at least, ensure the kitten is used to normal household noises such as the television and vacuum cleaner. If you have an elderly or disabled person in your household you might wish to consider an adult cat in need of a new home rather than a lively kitten which may get under feet and cause a fall. We sometimes have such cats wanting a loving, permanent home.

Our Oriental and Siamese kittens are very affectionate ( and full of mischief ) and they do not like being left alone for long periods. They are really true “people” cats. However, if that cannot be avoided perhaps you should consider two. Never leave your cat or kitten shut outside and never , ever, put the cat or kitten out at night. It is a good idea to get your kitten microchipped just in case it slips out so that it can be more easily traced and returned to you.

Our members breed Orientals and Siamese in all colours and coat patterns even though we specialise in Cinnamon and Fawn. Many litters are mixed both in colour and pattern and it is quite normal for there to be both Siamese and Oriental in the same litter of kittens. Put simply this means that it is possible for every kitten to be different from it’s brothers and sisters even though they have the same parents !!

Thank you for taking a few moments to read about our kittens --------

The fact that Kittens are listed in a Group Publication does not mean that they have all been inspected by members of the Committee. The Club provides this list as a service to members
and people currently seeking Kittens.
